Scouts learn ‘skills for life’ on camp – Summer 2018

The Scouts at Little Stoke have returned from their week long summer camp at Parc le Breos on the Gower in South Wales. Twenty boys and girls from the troop have had a fun, action packed and enjoyable week. Activities included fishing, horse riding, surfing, swimming, a visit to Oakwood Leisure Park and avoiding a wash for most of the week!

Carol Service – Dec 2014
On the Friday the 5th of December we celebrated the start of the Christmas season with our annual Carol Service at Christ the King Church in Bradley Stoke.
This year the service was loosely themed around the Christmas Day Football match between the German and English soldiers in no-mans land during the First World War.
To start the service the Scouts sang the carol Silent Night in German. In between carols and readings the Beavers singing Jingle Bells followed by the Cubs, who recited a poem, than sang the Christmas classic ‘When …
Beaver meetings – Dec 2014
On 21st October 2014 we visited Explore Learning at the Willow Brook Centre in Bradley Stoke. The Beavers were shown how to use a computer & log in. They then all completed a Maths Level 1 Course. At the end of the evening they were all awarded the IT Stage 1 Activity Badge.

Remembrance day parade- Nov 2014
On Sunday the 9th of October 1st Little Stoke Scout group attended the Bradley Stoke remembrance day parade. Starting at the Jubilee Centre Members of the Scout Association, army cadets, air cadets and Guide Association paraded the short distance to the Willow brook Centre for a short service of remembrance.
During this young people from all the session read poems and readings about the sacrifice of our armed services and how we remember them especially on this day.
Newsletter – September 2014
The Summer Holiday is over and since the main event of the summer was the Scouts summer camp this will be a very Scout heavy newsletter. In other news the group is now on twitter. 1st little stoke @ the Bradley Stoke Festival June 2014
We were at the Bradley Stoke Festival with the Beavers, cubs and Scouts selling home made cakes and saying hi to loads of people.

2014 is going to be a year of change for 1st Little Stoke Scout Group. Michael Edwards-Jones, who was a leader when I was a scout in the group, has decided to step down as Group Scout Leader and we thank him for his years of service. David Hutton, who I’m reliably informed has held almost every role in the group is slowly handing over roles to a selection of new volunteers including myself, so expect some change in the next few newsletters. Special congratulations to Dave who has received the bar to his Silver Acorn in the St Georges Day Recognition Awards 2014.
Dave has been part of 1st Little Stoke Scout Group for over 35 years. During this time he has held the post of Scout Leader, AGSL and GSL as well as continuing to be part of our executive committee. The bar to his Silver Acorn is awarded in recognition of his good service to our scout group as well as Scouting in our District.
